    All the Astro yogourt recipes are calculated using a 2,000 calorie reference diet. You can use the legend below to understand how the recipes are categorized to help you make better choices for your lifestyle.

  • What is the % Daily Value (% DV)?

    The % Daily Values are the percentages found in Nutrition Facts Tables and Charts. It provides a quick overview of the nutrient profile of a food to make it easier for you to compare products. It also helps you understand if you are getting a little or a lot of something. For instance, if a nutritional content table has 5% of a nutrient then it has a little. Percentages over 15% are considered a lot.

  • Why don’t the percentages in a % Daily Values in a Nutrition Facts Table add up to 100%?

    Simple, according to the 2,000 calorie a day reference diet, each vitamin and mineral has its own Daily Value. Instead of adding the percentages, consider each one an individual percentage that indicates if it has a little or a lot of the % Daily Value.

    For example, if a recipe says it has 30% Calcium, that is 30% of the Recommended Dietary Allowance of Calcium based on a 2,000 calorie reference diet. It does not mean that 30% of the recipe is made up of Calcium.

  • Health Canada reduced the Recommended Dietary Allowance of Sodium, how does this affect me?

    Yes, Health Canada recently passed Bill C-460 and reduced the Recommended Dietary Allowance to 1,500 mg of sodium per day (about ¾ teaspoon of salt).

    If you’re looking for recipes with lower sodium, please visit our recipe page and search by dietary need “Low Sodium.” All recipes marked Low Sodium on Astro.ca contain fewer than 300 mg of sodium per serving.

  • Do the number of servings in a recipe matter?

    Yes, serving sizes are included to help guide food portions and provide accurate Nutrition Information. Eating more than the recommended serving size in each recipe impacts the number of calories you are eating. For example, if the recipe says Serves 4 but you eat 2 servings, you need to multiply the Nutrition Information of the recipe by 2 to get the accurate Nutritional Breakdown.

  • I love Astro Original Balkan Style 6% yogourt but the recipe calls for 1%, can I still use 6%?

    Yes, you can use Astro Original 6% instead of the 1% listed in the recipe. Please remember that the Nutrition Information is created from the ingredients listed in the recipe. Any modifications or changes you make at home will also affect the Nutritional Values.

  • I have Celiac Disease and cannot eat gluten, are any of the recipes Gluten Free?

    If you are looking for recipes that contain No Gluten you can select ‘No Gluten’ from our Dietary Needs search bar. While Astro products are not made in a certified Gluten Free facility, none of the ingredients in Astro yogourt contain added Gluten.
